The striker’s arrival at the hospital in Fortaleza was met by large numbers of Brazilian fans. The Selecao themselves were accused of rough-house tactics in their win over Colombia but David Luiz won back some admirers telling James Rodriguez in a post-match interview “You are already a world champion.”

Radamel Falcao could still feature at this summer’s World Cup after his doctor gave him a better than 50% chance of recovering in time. The Monaco star, nicknamed ‘El Tigre,’ watched from his hospital bed as his team-mates and supporters held a pre-match tribute. The striker was also visited in Porto by Colombia’s president Juan Manuel Santos.
