Rick Stolk is a photographer from The Netherlands. For 3 years he’s been capturing empty football pitches around Italy.
“Every year, when I visit Italy, I am intrigued by all the soccer fields I see along the road. Some small, some with large stadiums. Some neglected, some immaculately kept by a groundsman. Some burnt by the blistering August sun, some of a vivid green because it’s artificial grass. Some hermetically closed by fences, some open to everybody.
“But they were all empty. Because of the summer, because of the heat, because of the transition between seasons.
“They were all beautiful and they all showed the love Italians have for the game.”
Rick Stolk studied photography & photographic design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. He currently working as an independent photographer, creating conceptual as well as commissioned work.
