Shay Given – couldn’t do much for their goal; would Joe Hart have saved that? At times it was more enjoyable watching Shay running through his warm up techniques during the match than watching this turgid game itself. Shay seems to have built up quite the repertoire and at times I had to remind myself that I wasn’t at the circus. He’s a top top goalkeeper. Let’s hope Joe Hart breaks his leg.

IRELAND’S U17 women’s team were beaten 2-1 by Brazil in their opening game at the World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time, the Girls in Green struck back in the second half but couldn’t hold out against their South American counterparts.
