Having endured a torrid period with injury, and five withdrawals from previous Irish squads, Anthony Pilkington has linked up with the Republic set-up and with Aiden McGeady out through injury, could even feature in Friday’s crunch tie with Sweden.
The Norwich player has tweeted a picture of his passport and boarding pass (Ryanair) as he finaly links up with the Irish squad.
The winger missed his club’s opening Premier League games and remained on the bench at the weekend with Ireland colleague Wes Hoolahan but scored in the League Cup last week.
Following Aiden McGeady’s withdrawal, Pilkington is in contention to see game time at the Aviva Stadium on Friday in the must-win clash with Sweden.
Injury has ruled the winger out of his previous Irish call-ups. He missed the end of season qualifiers having been ruled out by his club boss Chris Hughton.
The 25-year-old was also forced to miss last month’s friendly with Wales but tweeted his support for his new international team-mates, with his kids decked out in the green jersey. Daddy will finally get his own this week.
