Despite exiting the competition at the quarter final stage to compatriots Atletico Madrid last time around, 2015 Champions Barcelona have been made the pre-tournament favourites for Europe’s premier club competition, the Champions League.
The Catalan side will once again be spearheaded by the vastly talented trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar Jr this season, with the club also having invested significantly to add more strength in depth to their squad, and could will be a force to be reckoned with once more.
Luis Enrique’s men enjoyed a successful opening to their preseason campaign with a 3-1 win over Scottish champions Celtic in Dublin over the weekend, and take on Premier League duo Leicester City and Liverpool ahead of the new La Liga campaign. Looking ahead to the new season, Barcelona are the 8/11 favourites in the football odds from bookmakers Coral to win yet another Spanish title, with Real Madrid and Atletico offered longer odds.
The arrivals of Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes, as well as French defenders Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne, along with former Villarreal man Denis Suarez all look to be astute signings, as Enrique looks to add more competition for places at the Camp Nou. The club also remain in the market for further attacking options, with Enrique desperate to find sufficient cover for his MSN trio. Gremio striker Luan is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Spanish champions.
English competition for the Champions League could well come in the shape of former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard took over at Manchester City this summer following a successful spell with Bayern, and will be hoping to lead his new side to the final for the first time in their history. Aguero and Co are 12/1 fifth favourites in Coral’s football odds despite the potential arrivals of Leroy Sane and John Stones.
Barca boss Enrique is believed to have put his own personal contract talks on hold until the end of the season, after the Spaniard confessed his aspirations to manage outside of his homeland in the future.
