Celtic’s Fraser Forster finally conceded a goal after 1255 minutes of football and it took a superb strike from Dubliner Jonny Hayes to do it. To add to the Bhoy’s misery, a second goal from in-form Irish striker Adam Rooney saw them slump to a first defeat.
Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk was red-carded after just 11 minutes and by half-time, Aberdeen were 2-0 up and on their way to a first win at home over the Glasgow giants in six years. Two goals in five minutes, both from Irishmen, brought Forster’s remarkable run of thirteen consecutive clean sheets to an end.
Former Irish U21-international Hayes unleashed a thunderbolt on 41 minutes, and was followed on the stroke of half-time by Adam Rooney. The striker scored his fifth goal since signing in the January transfer window to add to the seven he netted for Oldham and has he already been watched by Irish assistant manager Roy Keane.
James Forrest grabbed a consolation goal for Celtic.
