Radio presenter Adrian Durham met his match this week in the shape of former Irish striker Clinton Morrison. The talkSport host blamed Colchester manager John Ward’s sacking on his signing of Morrison prompting Bling Bling to phone in and rip Durham a new ring ring.
Speaking on the show, Durham was less than complimentary about new recruit Morrison, claiming the forward, moving from Sheffield Wednesday, was not “a good signing” for the League One club. Manager Ward was sacked this week as United languish in the bottom four with just four points and no wins.
Morrison has scored once in eight games – in his debut against Sheffield United- but as he said himself, he’s had just five starts since his arrival in the summer.
“You can’t sign Clinton Morrison and keep your job if you’re in League 1,” remarked Durham.
Former Irish fan-favourite Clinton, who was released by Wednesday at the end of last season, phoned into the show and gave the host a piece of his mind forcing Durham into something of a back-track when he admitted Morrison was “too good” for such a move.
Morrison, who was part of the World Cup squad in 2002, and a regular in Brian Kerr’s international teams, scored on his Irish début in a 2-2 draw with Croatia in 2001 and was on target three times in the World Cup 2006 qualifying campaign. He was also named in Giovanni Trapattoni’s first 40-man squad for the training camp in Portugal but failed to break into the Italian’s plans despite good club form.
It seems Bling Bling still knows how to hit the target when he wants to.
