Wemberley, Wemberley: Fans React to English Date

We were the first country ever to defeat them on home soil and Big Jack’s boys battered them 1-1 in London. England and Ireland fans react to the news that the two sides will meet in a Wembley friendly fixture next May.

As part of the FA’s 150th anniversary celebrations, Brazil, Scotland, and ourselves will play England at the ‘Home of Football’ next year with Trap’s team pencilled in for a May 29th date.

Proving that the last infamous encounter at Lansdowne Road is never far from people’s minds, the FA website even used an old version of the Irish crest and an apparent midnight kick-off time is sure to give you plenty of time to get in good voice.

Here’s some of the online comments from both sets of supporters:

“It’s about time…..Brazil v England….a match I’ll actually enjoy watching, the Brazilians are pure class and my faves, hopefully it’ll be a good match…..not interested in the ROI match lol”

“I am Irish but I follow England as they have always a better chance of going to the World Cup than Ireland does. We went to the Euros this year and flopped!”.

“Gonna be a riot”

“England v Republic of Ireland nice to see the great neighbours play each other finally. Will it be the same as Euro 88 I wonder? Wait & see just hope it’s a good match. “

“Two sh*t teams playing in a half-filled stadium in a meaningless game, if that’s what floats your boat”

“Is Jack Charlton still their boss with Bernie Slaven up front?”

“A trip to the motherland for all the Premiership fans. They can all wear their United and Liverpool jerseys to it”

“Could be a short match if Ireland score first again”

“I still have my ticket stub from ’95…is it still valid?”

“Mouth-watering , can’t wait , the chance to beat England at their home ground !!!”

“I believe the game is starting in the 27th minute. Ireland are 1 up”
