World Cup Draw

Davey Blackett is illustrating a different footballer every day up to next year’s World Cup kicking off on June 12. We’ve already had Roy Keane and today’s post features Liam Brady.

The World Cup Draw is Blackett’s project to produce an image of a new footballer a day until next year’s tournament gets underway.

Originally from Durham, Blackett has been based in London for almost a decade. The qualified Graphic Designer has always had a big interest in illustration and decided to combine his love of football. The project has been running since June 12, marking 365 days before the competition kicks off in Brazil.

“I’ve loved football (although we’ve had our squabbles) since the late 80’s, running around in fields pretending to be Peter Beardsley or Bryan Robson. I have very hazy memories of Mexico 86, much stronger of Italia 90, and was absolutely beside myself by the time USA 94 came around. It went from there really. Valderrama’s hair blew my mind and I was as convinced as Pele that Colombia were going to walk it.”

“I wanted to do something that would force me to get back into drawing/designing regularly – this cropped up as a daft idea I could title with a weak pun and so I ran with it. It’s going pretty well so far but ask me again in 10 months.”
