Xavi’s 700 Up but is he New York Bound?

Xavi’s second-half appearance in Barcelona’s Copa del Rey win over Getafe marked his 700th appearance for the club amid rumours he is on his way to MLS following the World Cup.

Barcelona defeated Getafe 2-0 with both goals coming from Messi in a game marred by an ankle injury to Neymar. Xavi replaced Cesc Fabregas in the second half to make his 700th appearance for the Blaugrana.

Newspapers are reporting the midfielder, who turns 34 this month, is on his way to New York in MLS with some suggesting a deal has already been reached with former team-mate Thierry Henry’s Red Bulls . There’s also rumours that the new Manchester City-backed NYCFC are shaping up to offer the Spanish international a lucrative contract as their first marquee signing.

Xavi himself has denied any knowledge of a possible move.

“Nobody has made me any proposition. I know nothing else about New York apart from that it is very cold there. Henry has not called me, nor have I spoken with him. I do not have his telephone number,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

The player who came through La Masia academy broke Migueli’s appearance record for Barça (549) back in 2011, and according to the Barcleona website, will donate the jersey worn in Thursday’s game to the club museum.

“I have experienced the worst and the best in the history of Barca. The dry spell (from 1999-2004) and then the run of success where we won the triple (2008-09), the six trophies (in 2009) and the three Champions Leagues.”

Xavi made his début for the Catalan giants at 18-years-old on August 18, 1988 in the Spanish Super Cup against Mallorca. He’s made 459 appearances in La Liga, played 143 Champions League games, 63 Copa del Rey games, 14 Spanish Super Cup matches, 5 Club World Cup games and 3 European Super Cup games.

He’s also the Barcelona player with the most titles. In total he’s won 22: 7 Ligas, 3 Champions Leagues, 2 Copas del Rey, 6 Spanish Super Cups, 2 European Super Cups and 2 Club World Cups).
