Richard Dunne has been named FAI Senior Player of the Year after his stand-out displays in the Irish defence led to the Republic’s return to a major finals for the first time in ten years. The Tallaghtman’s away performance in the scoreless draw in Moscow was hailed by Irish legend and deity Paul McGrath as the greatest display by a centre-back he had ever seen. Dunne emulates McGrath by winning the gong for a second time, a feat also achieved by Roy Keane and Shay Given.
