Fallon Hero: Fergie’s Tribute

Alex Ferguson led the tributes at the funeral of Celtic legend, and Irish international, Sean Fallon this week.

Born in Sligo, Sean played inter-county football for his home county and League of Ireland soccer with Longford Town and the Bit O’Red before eventually crossing the Irish sea.

He went on to make more than 250 appearances for Celtic in the 1950s and was assistant manager to Jock Stein when the Bhoys won the European Cup in 1967. The defender, nicknamed ‘The Ironman’ was also capped eight times for the Republic of Ireland.

Ferguson, the Manchester United manager and close friend, delivered a eulogy at Sean’s funeral Mass in the Church of Christ The King in Glasgow on Wednesday, attended by hundreds. Sean passed away last week, aged 90.
