Following on from the greening of Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, Liverpool’s famous Kop is also turning emerald to celebrate Ireland’s national day. And manager Brendan Rodgers approves.
Landmarks around the world including the Empire State Building, the Pyramids of Egypt, and Christ the Redeemer in Rio, will turn green this weekend as part of an Irish tourism campaign to coincide with St Patrick’s Day.
The Reds have always enjoyed huge support from Ireland, and in recognition, the Merseyside club paid their own tribute this weekend. Liverpool’s popularity in Ireland was acknowledged by their manager, Ballymena man Brendan Rodgers.
“Coming from Northern Ireland means St Patrick’s Day is very close to my heart. We have a huge fanbase right across Ireland and it’s great to see our club being part of this weekend’s celebrations.”
Liverpool follows Munich where Bayern’s famous Allianz Arena will also pay homage to Ireland’s worldwide holiday.
