The Home of Premier Ambitions

It is one of Ireland’s most famous footballing nurseries producing some of the country’s greatest internationals such as Johnny Carey, Liam Whelan, Liam Brady, Ronnie Whelan, and Richard Dunne. Now Dublin’s Home Farm FC is the focus of Premier Ambitions, a behind-the-scenes documentary series airing on Setanta Sports.

Premier Ambitions is a six-part observational documentary series following the renowned Home Farm youth football team competing in the Under-15 Premier league of the Dublin District Schoolboy League (DDSL). Is this where the next generation of Irish stars can be found?

Fourteen is an important year for every young Irish footballer with ambitions. It’s the first year that big UK clubs can bring Irish talent across for closer inspection. Irish-based football scouts start making their presence known and for the players, fourteen is the age that things really start getting serious. In turn, coaches, parents and of course players start feeling the
heat.

Premier Ambitions follows Home Farm FC’s Under-15s Premier team over the course of a season. It sees passionate football coaches, vocal parents and dedicated players. It sits in on team talks, observes matches and meets young players who are developing their game in a club that helped develop a young Richard Dunne, Ronnie Whelan and Liam Whelan into first-class players. But where’s the next generation?

Every young player in a Premier DDSL club has ambitions but very few will get a chance to realise it. This highly observational documentary series reveals that pressure and how it can manifest itself during the course of a season. Premier Ambitions is a fascinating insight into the world of youth football in Ireland and where being a good footballer may not be good enough.

The series, produced by El Zorrero Films, is narrated by actor Liam Cunningham.

Premier Ambitions starts Monday 11th of February at 21:45 on Setanta Sports.
