Nineteen-year-old Liam, currently at Bolton Wanderers, featured in the second half for the Latics’ Reserve side in their 1-1 draw with Wrexham on Wednesday.
Liam has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under-19 level making his debut against the Ukraine.
His father Denis was signed by Oldham on a free transfer from Leeds in 1986. Four years later he was sold to Manchester United for £700,000 and was lauded by Alex Ferguson as one of his greatest buys.
Denis was capped 56 times for Ireland scoring four goals.
